Risk-Based Cleanup
Sea-Tac, Washington

G-Logics assisted a major airliner with a Jet
Fuel contaminated site in Washington. During
the removal of a 500-gallon underground
storage tank from the site in 1991, soil
contamination was discovered at the bottom
of the excavation. Subsequent explorations
discovered petroleum hydrocarbons at
concentrations that exceeded the Model
Toxics Control Act (MTCA) Method A soil
cleanup levels. Excavation of the
contaminated soil was not feasible given the
proximity of site buildings, roadways, and
buried utilities. To close this site in 2000, we
used the Interim TPH Policy and "retrofitted"
the existing pre-policy analytical data. The

intent of this work was to persuade Ecology to provide a No Further Action (NFA) determination at this site without the need for additional site assessment work beyond that already completed and documented 10 years earlier. Ecology agreed with our site characterization and issued a "No Further Action" determination for this site in February 2000, saving our client thousands of dollars in additional exploration, sampling, and cleanup costs.
